It is now thought that cornification in the nails takes place without the formation of kerato-hyalin granules. These creams are primarily used in severe cases of acne and cornification disorders. There are reductions in water content as epidermal cells undergo dehydration, which is particularly marked during cornification. Disulphide bond formation has been shown to increase markedly following initial cornification and horn formation.
