It is commendable that the author draws on qualitative and quantitative measures throughout these chapters. The chapters illustrate a range of methods, although there is an overall emphasis in favour of qualitative approaches. The chapter on anxiety, communication and safety in performance again draws on all the psychological concepts previously discussed. This replaces an accumulated literature of patterns corresponding to words, sentences, paragraphs, chapters, and books that encapsulates meaning from human experience and life. The experiences and views of homeless people interviewed for the study are reported in chapter seven. The extensive chapter on abolition, for example, skims over modes of liberation, the roles of families and post-liberation livelihoods. The chapter on plant responses to herbicides reminds the reader that stresses can be anthropogenic. The importance of epistatic modifiers was also stressed in chapters six and seven that deal with speculation and mimicry, respectively. The final chapter gives an inspiring overview of the complex problems surrounding market and non-market economic organisation. The chapter on data processing addresses these issues with a detailed discussion of the issues surrounding spot quantitation and data normalization. The second part of the book contains only two chapters, each dealing with more technical aspects of the production process. Some chapters remain mired in highly technical language, while others fail to transcend the limited social, cultural contexts of their studies. This chapter includes a significant amount of technical information that may be beyond the nonspecialist audience. In every chapter the narrative is given colour by local case studies from urban and rural congregations, brief vignettes of church leaders and telling incidents. This chapter is particularly interesting for the detailed case studies that follow, which illustrate the changes that children's phonological systems undergo during treatment. Ethical and spiritual issues were thoughtfully tackled, and there was a helpful chapter on the management of physical symptoms. In five well-organised chapters, the authors cover sensors, synthesis and algorithms. The collection would have benefited from a synthesis of the many insights and contrasting patterns to be found in the country-specific chapters. The chapter also provides a useful synthesis of the work prior to 2001 on the biological components of the accretion ice. Most of the book's 250 tables and 137 graphs and maps are located in these last chapters. The final chapter summarizes the book's theoretical points. The first three chapters develop this interdisciplinary approach by shaping a theoretical framework to guide the five case studies in subsequent chapters. Chapter five is again a rather theoretical one because the author deals with different types of policy and policy-making, policy analysis and electoral systems. These and other themes are developed in six substantive chapters. The following three chapters are based on the three principle themes. These examples are from corpora and from sources on the web.
