In hand specimen the quartz diorite is a foliated, mediumgrained rock. Both diorite and granodiorite intrude the gabbro, with granodiorite being the last intruded. In marked contrast, the central block exposes a significantly wider spectrum of lithologies ranging from diorite through granodiorite to alkali granite. Instead, a quartz diorite intruded along the eastern edge of the gabbro was investigated. The diorite consists mainly of plagioclase, amphibole and biotite variably altered to actinolite and chlorite with minor amounts of microcline and quartz, and accessory apatite, titanite and zircon. Amphibole diorite, with relicts of pyroxene, may also belong to this pluton. Gabbro shows ambiguous, possibly liquid-liquid, contacts with porphyritic diorite, which resembles an altered or heteromorphic version of the gabbro. |
