Cells whose nuclei divide, but whose cytoplasm does not, are called coenocytes. The coenocytes originate via nuclear multiplication and cytoplasmic growth among the cells surrounding the early embryo. Coenocytes are commonly found across the eukaryotic kingdom, including in animal and plant tissues.
