These words are used to describe traffic when the roads are too full of vehicles.

When a road is full of vehicles, you can say that it is busy. Busy can refer to a road that is always full of traffic, and it is used more in conversation than in formal reports about traffic.

Traffic is bumper to bumper during rush hour.
Traffic is jammed up for miles.
The ring road is just jammed.

If there is something that is blocking traffic and there are too many cars trying to get through, you can say that traffic is snarled up in UK English, or snarled in US English.


UKThere's been an accident on the M6 and traffic is snarled up.
USA tractor-trailer has jackknifed on I-95 and traffic is snarled for miles.
