It is an abnormal reflex found in patients with damaged pyramidal tracts of the brain. Knee and ankle jerks are exaggerated in pyramidal tract lesion. Because the pyramidal tract matures early, articulatory skills are not plastic at later ages. Patients with fluent aphasia tend not to have an associated hemiparesis since the pyramidal tract is not involved.
