This is not to say, however, that state multiculturalism reinforces ethnic fragmentation, thwarting a broader class-based project of transformation that would arise in its place. Normative theories of multiculturalism, on the other hand, are instructive because they have grappled with the moral commitment of recuperative identity politics. In this paper, we introduce the perspective of 'living multiculturalism', and discuss some of the major cultural issues from that perspective. By the same token, such a liberal multiculturalism would acknowledge that there are clear limits to the claims and rights of groups. This inspiring study is also an ideal read for undergraduate courses on issues of multiculturalism and intercultural contact. Here is proof of the damaging consequences of the intrusion of multiculturalism into the political sphere. A caveat, however, is that the two established parties do differ in one area of the larger immigration debate, namely multiculturalism.
