In the author's words, it presents 'thought-provoking exercises for those who strive to perfect the art of musical performance' (p. 3). The authors provide thought-provoking accounts of these changes, citing scholarly and personal narrations and court cases. This is a thought-provoking paper, harnessed to unquestionable richness of data. From the point of view of the unbiased linguist, the last chapters turn out to be the most fruitful and at times thought-provoking. This forms a thought-provoking addition to the recent - mainly psychological - literature on practice. Points of linguistic detail notwithstanding, this is an interesting, provocative, and thought-provoking volume. This edition - beautifully bound and produced - will assist future research and could provide thought-provoking material for teachers and students. Another thought-provoking proposal purports to unite the concept of prototype and border. This book presents a thought-provoking assessment of present policies, their perceived shortcomings and how these may be addressed. This does not detract, however, from a fascinating and thought-provoking book.
