Given the wealth associated with the office of attorneygeneral it is perhaps not surprising to find incumbents unwilling to trade the material rewards solely for higher prestige. The 1991 reforms also enhanced political diversity and plurality in the selection of the attorney general by requiring a two-thirds legislative majority for a candidate's approval. To understand what attracted them to the post of attorneygeneral, it is appropriate to examine its status in terms of rank, income, and opportunity for advancement.
