Over the last decade or so, the demand for aquatic plants has strongly increased in order to supply private aquariums, garden tanks or botanical gardens. Six of these infection aquaria were used, each containing 175- 445 parasites and 12-26 recipients. The aquaria were covered with dark cloth and placed in dark temperature controlled rooms to reduce irrelevant and stressful stimuli. The remaining unexposed sibs were maintained in two 100 l aquaria in the same room. Separate experimental aquaria were used to allow collection of fish in complete darkness without disrupting other animals. After io injection, goldfish were returned to their home aquaria to recover. One dytiscid species was tested at a time, and 12 aquaria were used in each of the experiments, eight containing a predator and prey and four controls with prey only. Such extreme conditions may occur in aquaria or other closed tank situations and, under natural circumstances, in ephemeral habitats such as seasonal ponds or irrigation ditches. During the past decades it has been disseminated into closed or semi-closed aquaculture systems and aquaria around the world, mainly due to the ornamental fish trade. We allowed the remaining fish, of which most had blue eyes and thus were males, to nest singly in aquaria (35i45 cm, water height 30 cm). Following all surgeries, fish were revived by fresh water circulation over the gills, returned to home aquaria, and isolated from tankmates until normal equilibrium was restored. However, when a random sample of males was allowed to nest and court females in individual aquaria in the laboratory, both uninfected and infected males built nests and courted females. In laboratory cultures, large and heavily infected snails migrate out of water on to the tank wall of aquaria or onto lettuce leaves without undergoing any feeding. They were cinemas, museums, picture galleries, zoological and botanical gardens and aquariums, music hall entertainments, and debates. From the Hansard archive Example from the Hansard archive.
