in American football, a line that marks the back of one of the end zones(= the areas at the end of the field where a player with the ball can score a goal):
The wide receiver's feet were across the end line when he caught the ball, meaning that he was out of bounds, so the catch was not counted.
In American football, the goal posts are located on the end line, but in Canadian football they are located on the goal line.
