When two similar sounds near to each other in speech dissimilate, one of them changes so that they are easier to pronounce:
Voiced stops may co-occur in adjacent syllables, and do not dissimilate.
The most likely explanation for these new forms is that the ending "-awr" was dissimilated to "-ar".
In some English words like "venom", a final "n" (for example in French "venin") has dissimilated to "m".
