When shedding of the oocyte(s) into the ampulla is imminent, stored spermatozoa are activated and released from the caudal isthmus in discrete numbers. The oocyte-cumulus complexes in the oviduct were released by breaking the wall of ampullae using a needle. The ampulla cytoplasm is an extension of the gland cytoplasm and is rich in cytoplasmic organelles but has few myofilaments. The catheter was advanced under fluoroscopic control in the lateral projection to avoid inadvertent entry into the ductal ampulla. In six patients (cases 4, 6, 12, 14, 18, and 19), the ductal ampulla was absent, or if present, was very small. Whilst reservations here primarily concern epithelial cells prepared from the oviduct ampulla, corresponding reservations would apply to epithelial cells from the isthmus. A tear was made in the oviduct near the swollen ampullae. After flushing, the oviducts were divided into ampulla and isthmus. These examples are from corpora and from sources on the web.
