This experiment is an illustration of the drawback of deadreckoning. Due to our localization scheme that completely relies on the deadreckoning, the final position of the robot was deviated from the actual target position. In this system, called deadreckoning or inertial navigation, movement is automatically used to update location information. This greatly reduced the odometry error in comparison with pure deadreckoning. Positions and heading angle from deadreckoning are redrawn on computer screen overlapped with a hand measured map. They are effectively deadreckoning all the time. The evidence adduced includes observations of usage (including gestures), experimental tasks in spatial memory, deadreckoning, statistical analysis of aggregate results, and a good dose of linguistic analysis. Two different types of locations are possible: deadreckoning location or absolute location.
