词汇 | dead-nettle |
释义 | dead nettle noun[ C or U ] (alsodeadnettle)uk /ˈded ˌnet.əl/ us /ˈded ˌnet̬.əl/ a plant with small white or coloured flowers, and leaves that look like nettles but do not sting(= cause a painful reaction when touched). Some kinds are grown in gardens, but others are considered weeds(= plants that grow where they are not wanted): Yellow deadnettle is an enchanting hedgerow plant, most noticeable in early spring. Dead nettles grow to about 60 centimetres in height, and have pretty white flowers. Dead nettle is lovely, but quickly gets out of control on all but the poorest, shadiest soil. The deadnettle looks similar to the stinging nettle, but is harmless.
