Another interesting element of both industrial lyrics and cyberpunk is the tendency to create neologisms. These works share a perception common to cyberpunk that ' ' the human body can be colonized, made into a hybrid of organic and technological elements. There are many places where industrial and cyberpunk cross over or refer to each other in quite obvious ways. In fact, it is fair to situate cyberpunk as one sub-genre of dystopian narratives. Such cut-ups and juxtapositions are also common in cyberpunk narratives. The appropriation of older, particularly low technology for its use in the resistance is a theme running throughout cyberpunk and industrial. Likewise, the use of robotic voices in cyberpunk films is similar. Cyberpunk fiction similarly incorporates many references to popular culture. Inherent in nearly all dystopias is a critique of the socio-economic system prevailing within that narrative: for cyberpunk, this is generally corporate capitalism. Cyberpunk's criticism is commonly of present-day systems of power taken to their logical conclusions. Cyberpunk and industrial could also be argued to sometimes have an underlying humour that helps to lighten this mood. Cyberpunk, therefore, has an arguably ambiguous relationship to technology itself. This collection of fictions by well-known contemporary writers and critical commentary by postmodern theorists addresses issues concerning how cyberpunk functions within postmodern culture.
