a legal process in a law court that is brought by one defendant(= a person in a law case who is accused of having done something illegal) against another defendant in the same case, or against another person involved in the same case:
Cross-actions allow inter-related disputes to be considered in one proceeding.
The defendant admitted the allegations in the complaint and in cross-action.
If A brings an action against B, and B then brings an action against A in the same matter, this second action is called a cross action.
