释义 | alkalosis noun[ U ] medical specializeduk /ˌæl.kəˈləʊ.sɪs/ us /ˌæl.kəˈloʊ.sɪs/ a medical condition in which there are higher levels of alkali (= a substance with the opposite effect or chemical behaviour to an acid) in the blood and body tissues than normal: Patients with metabolic alkalosis lose acid, and this causes an increase in the blood pH level. Hyperventilation in an anxious patient will cause respiratory alkalosis. Persistent vomiting can lead to dehydration, severe alkalosis, and bleeding. Chloride depletion in patients with vomiting is a common cause of metabolic alkalosis. The opposite of acidosis is alkalosis, in which there is too high a pH due to excess base or insufficient acid in the body.
