The doctor thought there was a more than 50 percent chance that the baby had a severe disorder, and suggested carrying out a chorionic villus sampling test. Prenatal diagnosis is usually performed by analysis of DNA obtained from chorionic villus sampling, amniocentesis or cordocentesis. Another procedure that may be used to diagnose genetic and chromosomal defects is chorionic villus sampling (CVS).
