词汇 | cervical-cap |
释义 | cervical cap noun[ C ] uk /ˌsɜː.vɪ.kəl ˈkæp/ us /ˌsɝː.vɪ.kəl ˈkæp/(UK also informalcap) a small, circular rubber or plastic device that a woman uses to avoid becoming pregnant. The woman puts spermicide (= a substance that kills sperm) on the cervical cap and puts it inside her vagina to cover her cervix(= the narrow lower part of the womb) before having sex: A diaphragm and cervical cap must each be used with spermicide, a special cream that kills sperm. The diaphragm and cap work by preventing sperm from reaching the cervix. The cervical cap is smaller and more rigid than a diaphragm, and fits over the cervix, where it's held in place by suction. Cervical caps do not protect against STIs (sexually transmitted infections). Ask your doctor about using a non-hormonal birth control (condom, diaphragm, cervical cap, or contraceptive sponge) to prevent pregnancy.
