释义 | ventral root noun[ C ] anatomy specializeduk /ˌven.trəl ˈruːt/ us /ˌven.trəl ˈruːt/ the root(= beginning) of either of two nerves that come out of the front of the spinal cord and carry signals about movement: From the spinal cord extends a series of dorsal and ventral roots that converge to form mixed spinal nerves. Injury to ventral roots results in motor neuron cell loss and loss of motor function. Ventral roots arise from the anterior horn and contain motor fibres. The ventral root joins the bundle of fibres growing outwards from the spinal ganglion, and the two together form a spinal nerve. The oculomotor nerve has only a ventral root, and consequently it is entirely motor.
