The most common clefs are G, F, and C clefs. In this manuscript, a C clef is used throughout. The C clef is never used on music written for the piano. The C clef's position on the staff can indicate any of the four voice types. Several hundred years ago, most music, both vocal and instrumental, was written using a C clef.
