These minorities, however, were recognized and protected in the treaties that created the new nation states. While there is no such right protected under international treaties, it is increasingly being recognized as essential to the delivery of justice. Some of these reservations have rendered the ratified international treaty virtually meaningless or of no practical legal utility.
