abbreviation for too much information: used to say that you are, or someone else is, giving too many details about a subject in a way that is embarrassing, usually personal details about something that should be kept private:
Sorry. You don't want to know about my bowel movements. TMI.
What I am about to type may be TMI (too much information) for some.
He made too many TMI remarks about his sex life.
He gives so many revealing details that you are tempted to shout "TMI!" as the kids say for "too much information".
He said that divulging information is a good thing when done right but that it becomes TMI, however, when the self-disclosure is done in inappropriate situations.
Talking about sex becomes TMI if you know both the persons involved.
