A sprain is an injury to the place where two bones meet and bend that is caused by a sudden movement.


They thought she'd broken her ankle but it turned out to be just a sprain.

An injury in which a bone cracks or breaks is a break or a fracture.


As people get older their bones become more prone to breaks.
He suffered a lower back fracture from falling off his bike.
