The first four notes give us a complete whole-tone tetrachord. The use of overlapping tetrachords is especially notable. In classical music theory, the first and fourth notes of a tetrachord are separated by a perfect fourth. The second and fourth notes of the normal first tetrachord of the minor scale are characteristically flattened.
