Examples of talkertalker Nevertheless, the acoustic-phonetic structure of some of the vowels differed across the generations represented by the talkers. Because there is a relatively small extant literature on precocious talkers, we took the preliminary step of verifying parent-reported precocity. The younger talkers tended to produce vowels that showed the length contrast less clearly than the older talkers. The younger talkers do not contrast long and short vowels as clearly as the older talkers do. Consequently, investigators have attempted to define more clearly the factors that may identify late talkers who will present with persistent difficulties later in life. The six resulting scores (two editing conditions x 3 blocks) were each based on 24 forced-choice judgments (6 stops x 2 talkers x 2 repetitions). Moreover, these results are not due simply to the background characteristics of talkers. Many late talkers have age-adequate receptive language, but some have delays in both receptive and expressive language. The late talkers in this sample were also delayed in their ability to use propositional complements. Rather, the late bloomers' use of cognitive terms mirrored that of the whole late talker group. He found that performance was better when the talkers and listeners shared a dialect than when the talkers and listeners were from different dialect regions. Neither time nor the scaffolding condition enabled the late talkers to narrow the gap between their narrative skills and those of the comparison peers. The second phase was identical to the first, except that the listeners heard all of the talkers reading the second calibration sentence. In the third phase, the listeners heard each of the talkers reading a different, novel sentence. Because speaking rate influences the absolute durations of vowels, long to short vowel ratios were calculated for each talker. These examples are from corpora and from sources on the web.
