词汇 stereoscope
释义 stereoscope
noun[ C ]
uk /ˈster.i.ə.skəʊp/ us /ˈster.i.ə.skoʊp/
a device used for looking at two slightly different images so that they appear as a single three-dimensional image (= having width, height, and depth):
Observed in the stereoscope, the two images merge and blossom revealing the full three-dimensional impact of the scene.
The two images originate from monocular observation but can be fused to give an impression of depth when viewed in a stereoscope.

If you couldn't afford the luxury of foreign travel, then a lantern slide show or the extremely popular stereoscope could bring the world into your own home.
Sir David Brewster improved the stereoscope by dispensing with the mirrors, and bringing it into its existing form with lenses.
Unlike with a true stereoscope, he begins with similar images that change and become progressively different rather than merging.
