The rhinoceros has a ganglion cell density map that, in light of what is known to date, is unique in a terrestrial environment for mammals due to its dual specialization. More detailed mapping of the retinal ganglion cell distribution in the horse is required to see if this dual specialization is a perissodactyl feature or specific to the rhinoceros.
