Programmes to rehouse homeless people in independent-living accommodation do not generally include those whose behaviour is chaotic, who therefore remain in hostels. The population of interest was homeless people aged 50 or more years who were rehoused into independent or supported housing. In view of these findings, the authors recommend accurate assessment before rehousing, time for the agency to get to know the homeless person and extra support in the early days.
