释义 | quitter noun[ C ] disapprovinguk /ˈkwɪt.ər/ us /ˈkwɪt̬.ɚ/ a person who gives up easily instead of finishing something: 遇到困难就放弃的人,半途而废的人 I'm no quitter.我不是轻易放弃的人。 Stop having or doing something abdicate abdication bandh bomb bomb out break with something butt forfeit forfeitable forgo forsake forswear give up the ghostidiom lay self-denying self-denyingly self-renouncing self-renunciation self-sacrifice throw Examples of quitterquitter We estimated coefficients (and odd-ratios) for quitters and current smokers, with 'never smoked' as the omitted category. The prevalence was higher among quitters than among never smokers, current smokers and seldom smokers. In spite of this emphasis on being a quitter, the students at no time mentioned the concept. For binge drinking the groups were early heavy, late moderate, infrequent, and nonbingers whereas for cigarette smoking the groups were early stable, late stable, experimenters, and quitters. Future research can overcome this problem by adding estimates of the indirect costs of smoking cessation, that is, the time or opportunity costs of quitters, to direct costs. The first term, quitter, emphasizes the negative qualities in someone who does not persist, whereas the second issues, being a fighter and not giving up, emphasize persistence. This is no time for quitters. However, the results in terms of cost per quitter and cost per life years saved remain cost-effective in comparison with several other measures for smoking cessation. We took full advantage of the presence of quitters by creating a multiple response smoking variable (never 1⁄4 0, quitters 1⁄4 1, current smokers 1⁄4 2). Outcome was measured as cost per quitter and cost per year of life saved. It is assumed here that 7% are spontaneous quitters, 23% of those calling the quitline quit before first call, 70% will relapse, and that 45% will be helped. We want to let their constituents know that we are watching their members who are such rebels in words, but such quitters in action. From the Hansard archive Example from the Hansard archive.
