As most other authors point out, blastwave evolution can probably be simulated using simple collisional hydrodynamics at time scales much larger than the laser pulse time. Note that the laser pulse must pass through the background nitrogen gas to reach the target, which causes a cylindrical blastwave in the nitrogen gas.
