This unique manner of presentation has emerged into the worlds of art music, underground music, and performanceart. Since the 1960s, new disciplines such as performanceart and media art have had strong explicit feminist currents. Its main exemplar is identified as performanceart. Instead, performanceoriented theoretical studies of the body have focused upon contemporary performanceart, generally rejecting text-based performances. I include a brief historical overview of how vocal performanceart developed and discuss its technological evolution from the 1970s to the 1990s. We see, however, that there are more women than men in vocal performanceart. In most respects, my intention in this article is the introduction of a genre, vocal performanceart, which emerged in the early 1970s. I have never particularly thought of them as performanceart. I just found that this cutting of the skin - just standing when the audience is coming in - this was performanceart! Is it an installation, or mime (since no one speaks in it), or performanceart? This theme deserves further research, and might be explored through other avenues for cultural patronage, such as performanceart, literary interests, scholarly pursuits and gardening. In this article, these considerations and techniques are used to focus on the electroacoustic aspects of vocal performanceart. In fact, the suggested term 'vocal performanceart' simply functions as a construct to help illustrate possible forms of coherence within these developments.
