Some of these examples may show the adjective use. We select one paraphrase phenomenon for each of the three paraphrasing goals. In a delayed condition the participants only responded - by translating, paraphrasing or shadowing - after each sentence was completely presented. An interesting question is what aspects of the paraphrasing task are particularly demanding. The paraphrasing task forbids the participant to repeat the original stimulus sentence verbatim. Once a generated sentence is translated by the transfer engine, the paraphraser can stop the paraphrasing process. In measuring the quality of task performance, we used a rating system that indicated how accurately participants performed the translating, paraphrasing, and shadowing tasks. Paraphrasing other with else would clearly not work in this particular instance. Paraphrasing does not need such a system because any meaning can be expressed in natural language. The patterns augmented by human experience achieved an accuracy of 88% in our paraphrasing experiment. Apparently, our participants were very capable of translating and paraphrasing sentences, and were almost as good as they were at repeating them. Furthermore, in paraphrasing literal repetition of the input, that is, reproducing the original input as the output form, must be avoided. Unsurprisingly, not being familiar with certain vocabulary items can give rise to problems, particularly when speakers lack paraphrasing skills. Blocks were then given a code, which was formulated on the basis of the original formulations of the respondents (paraphrasing). Of course, both paraphrasing and inter-lingual systems aim at assisting the transfer by changing input sentences into expressions suitable for transfer engine. For each of the three paraphrasing goals above, we can select related paraphrase phenomena to process. These examples are from corpora and from sources on the web.
