释义 | BETA Examples of bioturbationbioturbation isn’t in the Cambridge Dictionary yet. You can help! Where bioturbation is absent, the finer units consist of millimetre-scale bedding between siltstone and fine-grained sandstone. Bioturbation is common, but occurs almost exclusively in the interbedded mudstones: 23 % of mudstone beds contain bioturbation, compared with 1.6 % of the sandstones. Sedimentary structures were rarely observed except for some slump-structures, centimetre-sized ripples and bioturbation. The presence of crinoid fragments indicates an unequivocal marine origin for these sediments, and this is strongly supported by the presence of bioturbation and glauconite. Intense mottling related to bioturbation indicates a slow rate of deposition. The sediments, their contained fauna, as well as the intense bioturbation, indicate a well-oxygenated sea floor, below, but probably close to, storm wave-base. Bioturbation is abundant in the shale as both horizontal and vertical exichnial traces. In conjunction with animal evolution bioturbation has changed through time with great consequences for the preservation and behaviour of sediments. Due to post-depositional processes such as chemical weathering and bioturbation, the original patterns are often heavily 'obscured' or have disappeared. These facies associations, and abundant bioturbation, indicate an environment with a strong marine influence, and a proximal source of coarse grained sediment. There was no significant bioturbation noted in the mat, so heavy predation by macroscopic organisms seems unlikely. No marine fossils were found in the logged section, nor was there any clear evidence of bioturbation. As the basin is anoxic, or lacks oxygen, no life is present, so there has been no bioturbation of the sediments. Bioturbation is scarce, and concentrated to the upper, more fine-grained parts of the sandstone beds as epichnial ridges and endichnial traces. Bioturbation is common in both mudstones and sandstones, including vertical and horizontal sand-filled burrows, and bioturbation is evident in some granulestones. Based on fossils and bioturbation, this is an open marine facies association. |
