However, if memorywork is the central focus for the oralhistory interviewer, then the relationship between interviewer and interviewee needs to be unpacked more carefully. Oralhistory would be a key way of examining some of these issues in more detail and in a more multi-layered fashion. It is within this tradition that oralhistory developed in the late 1960s. This later study, thirty-seven years on, considers the nature of change over that period, and uses similar methods of oralhistory to do so. He breaks from the more romantic uses of oralhistory, but still stresses the need for empirical rigour. Similarly, the researchers draw upon diverse biographical approaches, such as oralhistory and narrative analysis. The fixed perspective approach can be greatly enhanced by the inclusion of a narrative, poetic or oralhistory component. The status of oralhistory as a shared process between researcher and informant is also considered. The scope and style of this book render it an invaluable resource for anyone with even a cursory interest in oralhistory. At the time of her oralhistory, she was a sculptor.
