either of two areas at the front of the brain on each side that are involved in the ability to smell:
The olfactory lobe is the centre of the sense of smell, and this lobe is highly developed in animals such as foxes and dogs.
The olfactory lobe is situated under the inferior surface of the frontal lobe.
The brain processes odours in the olfactory lobe.
Beneath the frontal lobe is the olfactory lobe, which is small in humans, but very well-developed in some animals, such as sharks.
In birds, the olfactory lobes are smaller than in mammals, and are placed together in the median line.
