Early studies suggested this stimulated the release of vasopressin from the neurohypophysis. Two neurohormones secreted by the neurohypophysis of the pituitary gland are antidiuretic hormone and oxytocin, which promote water reabsorption by the kidneys and milk ejection from breasts, respectively. There was a markedly higher concentration of digoxin in the neurohypophysis than in the adenohypophysis. The study looked at neurohormones in the plasma and neurohypophyses of both control and dehydrated animals.
