Particle sizing in remote sensing, which must rely on backscattering using several wavelengths, is an importani topic in experimental meteorology. From a viewpoint of geography and meteorology, the basin shows remarkable variability of temperature within a day and within a year. The structure of the classic cyclone is contained in all introductory texts on meteorology. One may find direct analogues of this situation in oceanography and meteorology. Comets, formerly objects of meteorology, were now to be redefined as significant bearers of active spirits through planetary space. The order of chapters also seems rather strange, with medicine sandwiched between cosmic rays and meteorology, environmental science disconnected from biology, and so on. I do not hesitate to recommend this book to those actively involved in polar meteorology research, and also operational meteorologists would find it useful. To this reviewer these models provided an interesting demonstration of an application of boundary meteorology to a very important problem in many countries. Outside meteorology, his research interests were in psychology. He turned to psychology as well as continuing work in meteorology but his meteorological work was now hampered by his moral convictions. They had travelled over 1000 km and had studied all of the following aspects of science: topography, geology, glaciology, biology and meteorology. The eventual result of this research was to detach the phenomenon under consideration from meteorology, and to insert it within optics or astronomy. We encounter in it the most diverse phenomena, which today belong to sciences as different as astronomy, geography, chemistry, seismology, volcanology, meteorology, and optics. But, this book manages to capture the advances of chaos through meteorology, astronomy, biology, economics, thermodynamics, and mathematics in a very readable, non-technical way.
