Those patients in whom the procedure was abandoned subsequently underwent uncomplicated surgical ligation. One patient had 2 major aortopulmonary collateral arteries and required collateral ligation at the same time. This reinforced the view of cardiologists and the surgeons alike that surgical ligation resulted in virtually complete occlusion of the arterial duct. The indications for occlusion are similar to those for surgical ligation, though in comparison the occlusion procedure has many restrictions. The overall results of surgery for ligation of the duct are excellent,15 and surgery is more widely applicable. This produced better and more consistent results compared to digestion and ligation in one reaction (data not shown). These continue to be potential problems after ligation of the origin of the subclavian artery from the pulmonary artery. For any compulsory sterilization programme, the major emphasis is likely to be on post-partum tubal ligation. The former relates largely to tubal ligations while the latter is mainly hysterectomies. We conclude that, detachable balloon occlusion of coronary arteryfistulasis a safe and effective alternative to surgical ligation in selected pediatric patients. During follow-up, the duct closed spontaneously in three patients at some time up to 6 years after ligation. After ligation, there was no visual evidence of myocardial infarction. The pathologic process undoubtedly started and evolved over the four months following ligation of the patent arterial duct. The third patient had a very small residual shunt following surgical ligation. See all examples of ligation These examples are from corpora and from sources on the web.
