词汇 | acrolect |
释义 | acrolect noun[ C ] language specializeduk /ˈæk.rə.lekt/ us /ˈæk.rə.lekt/ a form of a language that is considered to be better than other forms by certain people(一种某些人认为优于其他语言形式的)上层方言 Compare basilect Forms of languages & specialist dialects argot basilect cant colloquialism conlang demotic jargonistic journalese legalese lingo lingua franca metalanguage pidgin pidginization pidginize plain English Polari psychobabble shibboleth vernacularly Examples of acrolectacrolect Of the spectral and temporal variables studied, differences between acrolect- and basilect-dominant speakers emerged most clearly in temporal vowel proper ties. Unlike the acrolect-dominant speakers, no basilect-dominant speaker produced exclusively monophthongal variants in the word list data. The same informant may vary the register depending on whether s/he is using the acrolect or not. A "child-language" definition of the notions of acrolect, mesolect, and basilect must be different, to be sure, from an adult-language approach to these concepts. This variant has been historically associated with middleclass acrolect-dominant speech. This suggests that spectral distinctiveness may not play as prominent a role in vowel quality contrasts for basilect-dominant speakers as it does for acrolect-dominant ones. All acrolect-dominant speakers had completed college; three also held masters' degrees. The present data suggest that both basilect-dominant and acrolect-dominant speakers show stylistic variation. Female acrolect-dominant speakers showed less downgliding in the conversational sessions than in the word list. Note, however, that male acrolect-dominant speakers showed less downgliding of (o:) in their casual speech than they did for (e:): 10.6% for (o:) versus 37.5% for (e:). A spelling such as 'thru' or 'lite', on the other hand, definitely informs the reader not to expect the acrolect. This is interesting because it suggests that basilect-dominant and acrolect-dominant speakers alike use vowel quality to distinguish at least some vowels, whatever the contribution of durational features. Prescription, on the other hand, is an attempt to promote particular linguistic usages over others, often favouring a particular dialect or acrolect.
