The bone of the upper arm meets both the ulna and radius to form a hinge joint at the elbow. The knee joint is by nature a hinge joint, allowing flexion normally to a maximum of 135 degrees, but no extension. The ankle joint is a hinge joint, normally permitting movement in one plane. Although the knee is a hinge joint, meaning that it can only flex and extend, it is a very complex joint.
