a medical condition in which cartilage(= strong tissue) develops into bone more slowly than normal, which can result in someone having arms and legs that are shorter or a different shape than usual:
Jo was born with achondroplasia, the most common genetic condition that results in dwarfism.
People with achondroplasia have a relatively long trunk and shortened upper parts of their arms and legs.
She was born with achondroplasia, severely restricting the growth of her limbs.
Achondroplasia results from a decrease in the proliferation of cartilage in the growth plate, and results in dwarfism.
