The first-person subjective style of speech always gives way to the objective third-person mode. Indeed, on the animalist view, our having first-person perspectives (or any mental states at all) is irrelevant to the kind of being that we are. Only from the combined experience of these first-person perspectives can we get a well-rounded sense of what it is like to be human on earth. I discuss them only to indicate that what looks like straight first-person material is liable to reaccentuation through a third-person perspective.
