词汇 | false-rib |
释义 | false rib noun[ C ] anatomy specializeduk /ˌfɒls ˈrɪb/ us /ˌfɑːls ˈrɪb/ any of the three lower pairs of ribs(= curved bones in the chest) in the human body that are not directly connected to the sternum(= the long, flat, vertical bone in the centre of the chest), and are above the floating ribs: The next three pairs of ribs are known as the false ribs because they don't attach directly to the breastbone. The cartilage of the first false rib is attached to the last sternal rib. The cartilage of each of the first three false ribs is united by ligamentous fibres to the cartilage above. The condition arises from hypermobility of the anterior ends of the false rib cartilages. Slipping rib syndrome occurs when the cartilage connected to a false rib breaks and causes abnormal movement.
