Note that the presence of weak constraints has no influence on the worst-case complexity of deciding the existence of (preferred) answer sets. It has been argued that the worst-case scenario often fails to reflect realistic diagnosis situations. In this sense, because courts are not equipped with detection capabilities beyond rational belief formation, our study is a worst-case scenario for legal institutions. One approach is to find approximation algorithms with provably good worst-case performance guarantees. It has poor worst-case computational complexity, as detailed in the next subsection, but its average complexity seems to be more than acceptable for practical deployment. There is an exponential upper bound in worst-case time complexity, but the algorithm appears to perform almost linearly in practice. Another factor that undermined the influence of intelligence with civilian decision makers was the military proclivity for ' worst-case ' assessments. However, building lessthen-perfect self-replicating probes could, in the worst-case scenario, have fatal consequences for the human race. We therefore repeated the analyses using a 'worst-case scenario'. These techniques include tolerance calculation, worst-case analysis, statistical analysis, design optimization, and constraint-based reasoning. For some people, however, other criteria might apply, such as the avoidance of potential worst-case scenarios. The first two optimizations do not affect the asymptotic worst-case running time - though they perform well on a large class of automata. In fact, no algorithms for computing stable models are known whose worst-case performance would be provably better than that of the brute-force algorithm. Furthermore, we analyzed a worst-case scenario using extremely conservative estimates for benefits and costs for the combination therapy with peginterferon and ribavirin. Our main goal is to design algorithms for which one can derive non-trivial worst-case performance bounds. The effect of the screening module on worst-case per formance was more significant though. Their initial algorithm has worst-case quadratic complexity, but they also propose a more subtle (and unimplemented) linear-time variant. Figure 22 shows the effect of the screening module on worst-case per formance. As mentioned earlier, these bounds are related to the worst-case performance estimates for algorithms we proposed. The actual luminance artifact due to optical, pre-retinal or neural processes will be a small fraction of the worst-case value. We are especially interested in algorithms, for which we can derive non-trivial worst-case performance bounds. A worst-case estimation for rotational joints can be done by using the largest possible radius li for each joint. Each operation takes only 0(1) worst-case time.
