There are inconsistencies in copyediting, including transliterations, the placements of translations of authors' pseudonyms, dates, and so on, which detract from such a thorough study. This was done either by transliteration, phonetic respelling, translation, or shortening: that is to say, initial, medial, or final clipping. The transliteration cannot be taken as a strict guide to pronunciation and depends heavily on one's knowledge and intuition of how to pronounce a word. Transliteration may also be based purely on graphic similarities between letters. Such a phonetic loanword cannot however convey the meaning, and the transliteration may even be disgraceful. We can get 'spurious' different designations from different transliterations of foreign names. Others are more obscure, their origins only hinted at in the garbled transliteration of their names.
