In this example we must be aware that the causal claims in the structural explanations can be justified without reference to the individual ontological level. This same point can be made with respect to structural explanations. The book blends literary criticism with a critique of the political economy of ageing, and shows that ageist tendencies in the former echo the structural explanations of the latter.
