This is held to be due to failure to treat streptococcal infections early. With such high rates of streptococcal acquisition it is possible that most susceptible people will eventually develop rheumatic fever. Relation of the rheumatic fever recurrence rate per streptococcal infection to preexisting clinical features of the patients. The purpose of this study is to test whether streptococcal infection can be associated with idiopathic mitral regurgitation. There were no reports of non-suppurative sequels of streptococcal pharyngitis in the other articles reviewed. Streptococcal antibody titers should be determined routinely since they are more sensitive and reliable in establishing an antecedent streptococcal infection. We concluded that, in some patients, isolated mitral regurgitation might be caused by streptococcal infection. Until the 1940s, the main sources of food-borne streptococcal pharyngitis were milk and milk products. The incidence could have increased most in those communities where larger populations would be expected to facilitate streptococcal transmission. Many studies have focused on identifying the crossreactive streptococcal epitope. These authors coined the term 'biological mimicry' in order to explain the mechanism by which the crossreactivity observed between human and streptococcal antigens occurred. Rheumatic polyarthritis can be extremely variable, both as to intensity and time, and confirmatory evidence of a preceding streptococcal infection can be equivocal. The primary aim is to prevent the initial attack of rheumatic fever through the correct treatment of the streptococcal infection. From then on, penicillin has been the drug of choice for treatment of streptococcal infection, and rheumatic fever is no exception. These cells are streptococcal primed during the throat infection and able to recognise self-antigens by molecular mimicry. They point to the existence of different pathways of response to streptococcal antigens. This basic treatment is concentrated in three areas: first, eradication of streptococcal infection; second, reliefofsymptoms; and, third, control of inflammatory reactions. We assume that the guidelines for the prevention of food poisoning would apply to food-borne streptococcal pharyngitis. Despite knowledge of the streptococcal origin of acute rheumatic fever, diagnostic criteria are still used to make the diagnosis. Because of the causal relationship between streptococcal pharyngitis and rheumatic fever, it is hardly surprising that the epidemiology of the two disease is closely related. In conclusion, the epidemiological evidence suggests that less than 5-6 % of people can develop acute rheumatic fever after relevant streptococcal exposure.
