This finding suggests that asking children questions requiring them to produce novel words is an important element in word acquisition during storybookreading. Investigations of the relation between storybookreading and children's language development are conducted to address two important and related issues. In this study the task is joint storybookreading. In typical storybookreading situations, parents and children usually do not engage in the teaching of novel ' puppet ' words that are unfamiliar to both parties. First, parents were asked to report about frequency of parent-child storybookreading at home. Joint storybookreading can be expected to enhance knowledge of late acquired morphological structures that occur frequently in written narratives. More specifically, children tended to become more active participants in the joint storybookreading task as the book became more familiar. However, although these maternal storybookreading styles were relatively consistent across the 18-month time span of the study, they were not as consistent across types of books. Many studies have looked at the effects of joint storybookreading per se on different aspects of child behavior. Tarplee 1996 investigated interaction between caretaker and child during the activity of storybookreading 0 showing. The study included three storybookreading conditions : single-reading, repeated-reading and questioning. Storybookreading research with monolingual families suggests that adult strategies used during shared reading provide greater opportunities for children's verbal participation while facilitating their language and literacy skills.
